Alumni History

The Cochran School of Nursing Alumnae Association, founded in 1902, is one if the most active nursing alumni organization in the country. All graduates receive a free membership for one year.

The president of the Alumni Association serves on the Nursing Service and Education Committee of the Board of Trustees of St. John’s Riverside Hospital. This is a prestigious position representing nursing education.

A Cochran School of Nursing Alumni Award of $1000 with a bar attachment is presented at graduation, by the President of the Alumni, to a student who has excelled in both theory and practice.

There is an Annual Cochran Alumni Meeting in September. All members are invited and encouraged to participate in voting for board members and by-laws amendments. Various programs are presented at this meeting.

As a member of the Cochran Alumni, you receive an Alumni Newsletter three times a year. The newsletter has a great deal of information and graduates are encouraged to maintain membership as a means of networking. With their dues payments, many graduates send biographical information on their work experience, education endeavors and achievements. The biographical information is placed in the newsletter.

There is information about St. John’s Hospital’s from the CEO’s newsletter on changes in healthcare and hospital updates. The Alumni Association supports the hospitals annual fundraiser and occasionally purchases equipment.

The Cochran School of Nursing is committed to the graduates and to nursing education.
